Well... the "Duke Boys" are modeled by California writers on what they think
southerners are like. Let's not give that more credit than it's worth. ;^)
But, in the end I doubt you can apply broader labels to them: they live in a
microcosm which lacks much of the drivers of the south. The Duke Boys
rarely (if ever) have to deal with racism for example. The governmental
body of Hazzard country is both corrupt and incompetent, but, for all that
basically good.
Considering this are they conservative? Well, perhaps: they have "teamed
up" with Boss Hogg on several occasions and help him to defeat some communal
threat (the devil you know).
Are they liberal? Well, sometimes: they definitely disrespected some of the
laws (although for the most part only those most corrupted ones) and are
socially liberal in the extreme ("com'on Roscoe, give these poor people a
break!").
So in the end who knows?
Are there any TV/Comic book heros that are truly completely "Conservative"
or completely "Liberal".
