I'm not talking tough girls acting little or little toughs acting like girls. I'm talking about movies which take some sweet young lady and make her all independent and intimidating and quite possibly an ass-kicking machine.
"Batman Returns" may have been named for the bat, but we all know this one was all about the cat. If only they hadn't ruined its wonderful legacy with last year's Halle Berry travesty. "Fried Green Tomatoes" is a surprisingly enjoyable chick flick in that there's some killin', some fighting and just a taste (pun noted and intended) of cannibalism. "Leon, The Professional" stars a pre-teen Natalie Portman trying to jump-start a career as a paid assassin. This film is a masterpiece of staging not to be missed. "True Grit" stacked an aged-to-perfection John Wayne against a tiny-little girl... and (sorry for the spoiler) the girl won. And the modern masterpiece not to be missed: "Kill Bill" (both volumes) has one pretty little girl spilling more blood than a hundred drunken surgeons.
