A great number of the things we eat are "drugs" -- caffeine, sugar,
chocolate, st. johns wart... The distinction is one of legality. When
they say "a drug free employer" what they mean is "a contrabanned-drug
free employer". For whatever reason, alcohol is legal and hemp is not.
A lot of employers have rules prohibiting people from consuming
alcohol while at work, but since alcohol is legal, this is by no means
a requirement on the employer's part. I don't participate, but my
co-workers have "happy-hour" at the office at the end of just about
every friday.
