Our AC went on the fritz again, so we spent the better part of four hours in our local wide screen, dolby, stadium seat, Air Conditioned multiplex.
Saw the following: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... if you've ever wondered whether Tim Burton dropped acid in high school, go see this movie. It's farging weird. Johnny Depp isn't nearly as Michael Jackson creepy as the trailers would suggest, but he's far more creepy than Gene Wilder. Depp holds on to Wilder's somewhat sinister feel to Willy Wonka, the whole movie has kinda of a sinister feel to it. Good flick Fantastic Four... Pluses: JESSICA ALBA IN TIGHT SPANDEX... hehhehe. This is the farthest that any of the Marvel Movies have strayed from the comic book story line. They got the FF's powers and personalities almost dead on. The only other actress that possibly could've pulled off Sue Storm would've been Charlize Theron, she's got the same mix of beauty, brains and toughness that Jessica Alba has. Reed's the uber-geek, Johnny Storm is the comic book persona completely over the top. Michael Chiklas is great as The Thing, he does amazing things with 75 pounds of latex on him. Now... the minuses: The BLEW DR. DOOM Completely, wasn't even close. 1) Dr. Doom never immigrated to America, he's Latverian, always was, always will be, he ran the damn country... 2) Dr. Doom is not made of metal, he wears armor, he's horribly scarred, because he messed with things arcane that he shouldn't have messed with, the armor and the accident. Is where he gets his power. 3) Victor Von Doom was never on the flight with the FF, he's never been exposed to cosmic radiation. He has only a passing knowledge of Reed Richards until Dr. Doom threatens NYC, THEN he falls for Sue, he and Sue never hook up, at any point. 4) Johnny Storm is much younger than Sue (by almost 10 years in the comic book) and he's blond....
