The Kite Runner - fabulous book, even better audio book. I would sit in
my car outside of my destination for a long time before I could bring
myself to go in! It's about a boy growing up in Afghanistan, and the
author reads it, pronouncing all the words and names properly, and tells
a compelling story. A must-listen!

I also enjoyed these a *lot* (not all in genres I normally read)

Oryx and Crake - Margaret Atwood
The Legend of the Otori series - 3 books, all excellent listens
Angela's Ashes - read by the author in an irish brogue. Great!
Ender's Game

I also listen to the radio show (counts as one subscription) - This
American Life. It's a fantastic show that consistently has interesting
topics and unique stories.
