I am not trying to be an EA advocate because I really don't like the company. But, from a business point of view, it would be stupid for them not to buy exclusive rights if they are offered. The organization that offers the exclusive rights is the biggest loser in my opinion. Since there is no competition, innovation will be left to the side. The first person view of NFL2K5 was pretty cool. They probably would have never created it if 2K sports owned exclusive rights to the NFL.
I don't believe that this exclusive rights issue is a big a deal in the long run anyway. Games are so customizable now that a company can create a game with 30 teams that you can rename, modify uniform colors, change team location, design custom logo's (shouldn't be hard to include a small graphics program like Paint in these games), change player names, customize schedules, and such. In fact, most of these options are available now. Since no liscensing fee is paid, the game might even be less expensive. I have downloaded free rosters for NCAA College Football 2004, ESPN College Hoops 2005, and ESPN MLB 2005. There is a large community of players who work on rosters and such which would save most people the trouble of making the modifications mentioned above (check www.operationsports.com<http://www.operationsports.com>). Whole leagues which are exact duplicates of the NFL (more accurate than rosters that are on the disc as well) would be available within days of the game release more than likely. On another note, I have been looking for a used copy of Winning 11. I have heard its a great game and outshines FIFA by a long shot so I won't even consider buying the EA game.
