Um the Japanese Post Office is not a minor thing. Its sort of like the
BBC, the Postal System and a couple of major banks rolled into one.
What Koizumi wants to do is to break it up and privatize the remains.
This is big news in Japan.

As for how the US reacted, well its typical of the US - its always
thought that the world ends at its borders. In essence the US ethos
thinks that nothing is as important as its own navel, or butt as you
would have it. That is of course until something happens and bites the
US in its ass.
