In San Francisco, local stations run news in Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Cantonese, and I've seen the story portrayed on all four this week. (I've also seen a lot of footage of World War II atrocities on Korean and CCTV the past two weeks... CCTV also carried a lengthy story on a gay pride parade in Harajuku... very interesting to see the programming choices.) I didn't understand well enough to know that it was downsizing the Post Office which was in play, though... there's a lot of cultural work to do to get the economy dynamic and responsive again. (I make no defense of the programming choices at very large media outlets, of course... they *could* get reports from outside Baghdad's green zone by using existing text/audio/video reporting from US service staff, for instance, but.... ) jd -- John Dowdell .
