Probably more complicated than it sounds. If we use the current xbox as an example the hard drives are hardware locked using the serial number from one of the motherboard chips as a key. This means the hard drive is only any use in the xbox it came out of unless you unlock it, this can be done but requires running 3rd party software on the xbox, therefore meaning it needs chipping first. Once all that is done you then insert the 200Gb drive, lock the new drive, copy all your games onto new drive, load them from there in double quick time :)
With the xbox 360 having an external drive this is less likely to be a problem BUT I wouldn't put it past MS to lock the drive to some component in the external enclosure making it dificult to swop out the drive and then test for this lock before use so that an unlocked pc drive macguyvered into the 360 wouldn't work either. If MS have done something like that it could be longer, 3-4 months. If not and it is a standard IDE or SATA drive, 4 hours. -- Jay > -----Original Message----- > From: Kevin Graeme [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Sent: 18 August 2005 23:36 > To: CF-Community > Subject: Re: XBox 360 Pricing/packaging > > So...2 months before a do-it-yourself drive hack is out? > Should we start a pool? > > On 8/18/05, Vivec <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > > If people find themselves buying two Memory cards to play > three games > > etc. then they will most likely end up purchasing the HD seperately > > anyway, and maybe this is what MS is counting on. > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Find out how CFTicket can increase your company's customer support efficiency by 100% http://www.houseoffusion.com/banners/view.cfm?bannerid=49 Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:170334 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=11502.10531.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
