On the offchance someone here has seen this before... My laptop is
giving me error 8611 on bootup. It does not get into windows, but
forces me into a rather antiquated configuration utility. Now that I
am someplace with alternate internet access google seems to indicate
that this has to do with the trackpoint, which does make sense as it
hs been showing a distressing tendency to go off and get stuck in a
corner.

Seems that disabling the trackpoint will fix matters and then of
course I will have to carry a mouse around, but this beats buying a
new laptop. ANyone have opinions or thoughts or warnings about this
process?
