As Tony said, I'd stay away from Montego Bay (the city) unless you're
real good with grifters. They'll be all over you and unless you know
how to make it known that you shouldn't be approached, it won't be
much fun - at least that's been my experience.

About going up to Dunn's River - I think Breezes has a resort in
runaway bay and so catching a bus should be easy even if you don't go
on the scheduled trips. The north coast drive is fun and a good way
to do it is to just make friends with a porter and find out if he has
a buddy that'll take you. That's fun because it's cheap (negotiate),
private, and they know all of the good spots and will be very laid
back especially if you're buying at every stop! Please note obvious
pre-cautions. I've done this numerous time and always had a blast.

One fun thing to do on the north coast is to "tour" the resorts. It's
a great way to find your next place and have a fun day. Just drive up
to all of the resorts and tell the front desk that you'd like to see
the facilities and are considering a stay. They'll give you the grand
tour and usually leave you by the bar for awhile.

Sans Souci Lido is a great resort, highly recommended, and they give
great tours which is how I found out about it. We happened to go down
to the beach during a volleyball game and stayed 2 hours. Then we had
a few rum cocoas and headed off to the next hotel. That whole stretch
is full of them.

If you want the exotic tour, head to the east end for the James Bond
tour or up into the mountains for the Bob Marley tour.

Also along the north coasts are great little fish taco stands. Grab
one and watch the waves. Irie.
