The whole studio update is around the corner, which means this is the
Dreamweaver that's going to make CF coders forget about HomeSite, right?
Well, here's my list of requirements:
- CSS management for entire *dynamic* Sites/individual pages - It's
extremely annoying that it DW will only recognize CSS includes on static
pages, especially coming from the company that owns ColdFusion.
- Keywords for snippets, triggered by a keyboard shortcut - This is a
HomeSite feature that is sorely, sorely missed in DW.
- Graceful handling of lost connections - We use VPN connections all
day and DW takes a huge nosedive if you lose access to it's precious Sites'
directories when you connect to someone else's network.
- CFC explorer panel - Duh.
- Ability to select tag/tag pairs with double-clicks - This is another
HS+ feature that is absent from DW. (Ctrl + double-click for selecting a
tag, Shift + Ctrl + double-click for selecting a tag pair and it's
contents.)
- Ability to turn off resource checking (completely) - I don't want
you, Dreamweaver, checking my images and links everytime I save a file. You
couldn't find half of them, because they're dynamic anyways. I know there
are some weird settings you can enable now, but it should be cleary
controlled in your site management/preferences.
- Ability to asign keyboard shortcut to a specific panel, not only
the predetermined favorites. In DW2004, you can assign a keyboard shortcut
to the Code panel, but not to an individual tab inside it. (I run a dual
monitor setup and my search & replace tab shows up in my second monitor, I
can show the results tab within the Code panel with a keyboard shortcut, but
i can't hide the parent Code panel with the same shortcut...pia.)
- Remove javascript event attributes' auto-capitilizations (onChange,
onFocus) - Ever heard of XHTML?
- Better definition of testing vs. production resources within Sites -
You should be able to choose which files to transfer, have a compare tool,
etc.
Can anyone out there spill the beans on how much I'm going to cuss
Macromedia once this is released?
