Quite frequently toward the beginning of his first term... Of course
the Faith Based Initiative, stem-cell research and gay marriage come
immediately to mind. You can argue that his position on gay marriage
is not a religious one, but you'd be wrong. He made it repeatedly and
readily obvious that his agendas were religious in nature since the
very beginning of his first term, maybe even before he was elected. In
the 2nd election, the larger part of his campaign agenda was to
mobilize the religious right to the polls. How did you miss that? I
remember reading news articles saying that the Bush campaign had
sleazilly tried (and possibly succeded) to recruit church officials to
hold meetings and push the Bush campaign on their congregations.

If _you_ haven't seen an overt religious agenda from Bush from day
one, you've got to be very nearly the only person in the world who
hasn't, as evidenced by a great deal of writing on the subject:

I remember reading an article on this subject that I liked very much
near the middle of his first term, but can't find it now.

This article (below) can be attributed to an individual nutcase, but
it strikes me as being the sort of response engendered by the "I know
God personally" attitude Bush has represented throughout his
presidency:
