Got a new driver's license ok. The REAL ID Act is apparently not in effect yet or New Mexico did opt out, not sure. Not sure why it's needed, actually... they definitely made sure they knew who I was, asked me some questions from their records, etc, and I saw several people turned away for lack of the right documents. They only actual ID they asked for though was something official with the social security number and I gave them a copy of my tax return. I had other picture ID, but they weren't interested. Perhaps, like Bank of America, they store a copy of the picture. Net result, somewhat less hassle for me, no increase in danger to the homeland.... In other news I talked to the owner of the chain and I have an email from him admitting they threw it away. The manager in question apparently denied that there was any ID inside however, but there is no doubt on this point... I had the alien registr4ation card with me because I was just coming from one of those prove-you-are-here-legally thingies.
