I have used MS Flight Simulator for several years. I would say if I
ever had to fly a 747, I probably could, as long as someone could talk
me through the process. I pretty much know where the controls and
instruments are located as well as what most of them do. They say a
monkey could land one.

I would prefer to land a 777. Pretty much, all you have to do is
program the airport, and a few other things, and it will land itself.

If I were w/o communication, I could probably still land the plane, but
I would want/need plenty of runway. Also, the hottest stewardess would
need to be my co-pilot.

In a light plane, it probably wouldn't be a problem either. I would
just put it down on the nearest highway or landing strip club.

Subject: Re: 40 things that only happen in movies, and a question about
landing jets...

I think I recall reading an article about a passenger landing a
passenger jet in one of my aviation magazines, but don't quote me on
that. It's certainly not as common as in the movies. Even with my basic
pilot cert I don't know if I would be able to do it.

But as for small planes, it happens. It's unfortunately frequent enough
that there are even one-day training progams for spouses and family of
pilots of small planes to just familiarize them with the cockpit so that
if they're ever in that situation they aren't entirely clueless and
hopefully they can at least know how to use the radio (one of the more
complicated parts, IMO).
