Turns out it was called Fair Oaks, maybe in Annondale, but close to Burke, VA.

It now looks like it is a private school? It was definitely a public
school when I was there.

There was some article about it in '79 or '80 in one of the magazines
I read at the time (Boy's Life, Time, Highlights, etc), which I
thought exceedingly weird.
