figures are rough, then the figures look like this (military and civilian
combined):

Canada: 35,000 (no civilians)
US: 300,000 (around 6,000 civilians)
UK: 350,000 (around 90,000 civilians)
France: 650,000
Japan: more than 3,000,000
Poland: 5,000,000 plus (mainly civilians)
Germany: 5,500,000
USSR: 18,000,000 plus
