I just realized I never posted results on my keyboard in the dishwasher
experiment.

As suggested, I took all the goodies out of the inside, and just washed
the shell. I turned off the heated drying cycle to avoid problems with
meltiness, and stuck the shell in the bottom section of the dishwasher.
I added soap, dishes, and ran it on "heavy wash".

After drying and reassembling the board, it seemed stiff and
non-responsive (in that sticky key way, not that it didn't work). I
kept using it, mostly because I forgot to grab a spare keyboard at work,
and after a day or two, it went back to normal. I suspect that the
stickiness was due to moisture in the sliding bits under the keys that
was distributed and dryed during use.

Anyway, other than that, it worked like a charm. If you ignore the six
years of scarring, the keyboard looks like new. That is to say, it's
back to the original color. :-)

So, yeah. Good experiment.
