You can't spend what you don't have. David Glass, the owner, is rich...but he didn't get rich by consistently losing money in his business ventures. Besides, he's not rich to the point where he could stand to lose money for an extended period of time, and still be able to operate the Royals very long.
The Royals draw a respectable number, considering the state of the team. The market is just not big enough to bring in the kind of TV and radio revenue that is needed to offset the operational loss that just about every owner experiences due to the rising discrepency between payroll and revenue from ticket sales. The Yanks and Sox make their money on TV and radio deals, not ticket sales. To be fair though, I only think that is part of our current problem. Our team payroll last year was in the 45 million dollar range, which should be enough to at least compete. So bad management is certainly to blame too. > > Why won't KC spend the money?
