Google Maps has steered me wrong a couple of times also. Most
recently they were totally outta wack at the end of a 8 hour drive
from San Diego to Santa Cruz. Luckily I was able to find my way to
the right road via street signs, but I shoulda had a map with me.

I find it best to make sure I print out a closeup of my destination or
any parts of the trip that might confuse me. That way if the
directions are screwy or I get off course I can just fall back to the
map and forget about the directions

Also, after a recent trip to Chicago, I've decided to print out
directions/map to my hotel from the airport too, even if I'm taking a
cab. I hate trying to talk to a cabbie about where I want to go in a
strange town when he doesn't speak any english.
