It depends on the format, the content and the manufacturer. DXF files a generally just text commands that tell the program how to draw the objects. They can be pretty small (a few KB to several MB for simple drawings).
DWG files (AutoCAD) are generally larger since they also contain metadata about the drawing as well as the drawing objects. Then, you have solid modeling files. These can be many, many MB in size, although they also tend to contain only the steps needed to "rebuild" the objects. The software then plays the steps to generate the visual image. Large architectural drawings can be huge because of all the notations, floor plans, dimensions, etc. But, still, they are probably not more than a few dozen MB for reasonably-large images. If the drafter is good at what he does, he will probably use symbols to keep the file size down. It all depends.
