Wouldn't that just be economic equilibrium?  The less there is, the more you
can charge. I wouldn't think profit would change that much because there
isn't that much to sell at that high price.

The irony is, that as we reach peak oil the oil companies will be
making higher profits because they will be able to charge even more
for the scarce resource.
