there is of course politics involved. This is politics. Nonetheless,
we have on the one hand Cheney of the five deferrments calling people
liars and unpatriotic and on the other people who have come to realize
that they are not the only ones made uneasy by the sitation in
Iraq.... I am sure that the mood of the electorate is an important
factor in what is going on, and perhaps the most important one. It is
not however the only one, I think. You don't have to be worried about
re-election to see the problem with cutting student loans at a time
when we are funding expensive cars for occupation authority vehicles,
or to wonder why we're making legalistic end runs around human rights
treaties when this seems to only inflame the passions against us.
