A good series of books (actually Historical fiction) is Colleen McCullough's
Masters of Rome series. Starts with Gaius Marius and ends with Julius
Cesaer.

First Man in Rome
Grass Crown
Fortunes Favorites
Cesears Women
Cesear
The October Horse.

She draws her story from many scholarly sources, but ends up much more
readable.

Now that it's all over, I'd like to figure out what really happened, or at
least what history says what happened. Anyone know of any good books, or do
I have to stick to Shakespeare?
