Ok, that does more then I want. I guess I don't want a "true" fixed position that stays in place when the window scrolls. I just want it to appear in the center of the view port, no matter where it is currently scrolled to. After the layer is open, it can scroll around with the content until closed.
The trouble is I am not finding anything that gives me the width of the browser view port for IE6. Everything I find is telling me to use body.offsetWidth/Height, but this return the entire width of the content which is two to three times wider then the view port.
