There you've said it. You believe government's role is "to protect our moral standards." I've not misrepresented you at all. You want agents of the state to enforce your moral standards. That's the exact opposite of me. I want agents of the state to guarantee my right to do any damn thing I want as long as it doesn't infringe on your rights. If you believe in a small non-intrusive federal gov't then you don't oppose Gay Marriage. You, however, believe the federal gov't should "protect our moral standards" by having agents of the state invade citizen's private lives.
