Your biology reasoning is flawed. I'm not a direct expert on the brain,
but it seems to me that if the body is capable of reproduction, then
isn't it reasonable that the mind should be as well?

The brain itself is perfectly capable of dealing with such things at
very early ages. We just don't, we let "kids be kids" We don't give them
any responsibilities until they are 18, and then we give them all of the
responsibilities at once.

Of course a 16 year old kid in the American culture isn't able to make
that choice, because we've shielded them from having to even think about
it until the very last minute.

Another thing that plays into this, is our live span has gone up. A 12
year old doesn't have to think about marriage any more. We live long
enough that we have additional time to do other things, and our culture
has adapted to that.
