One of the first things to realize is that the movie was about a Marine
Infantryman in a STA unit.

That's like being an Army Ranger or Scout Sniper.  Your there for one and
one reason only.

All soldiers aren't killing machines.  In the army you brake up the type of
soldiers into combat arms and non-combat arms.  The combat arms soldiers
(infantry, arty, engineers, armor) are front line troops.  They are trained
different, and usually have a different mentality when they join and choose
to do that.  Your average pogue office bitch doesn't get off on being in the
mud and blowing shit up, but a good portion of the infantry really does.
