SUVs cause accidents because smaller cars can't see around them.  When
the SUV hits the brakes in traffic, they get rear ended.  I see this
at least once a week and I don't drive in traffic that much.  They
cause bottlenecks for the same reason.

But, the truth is, there's no accounting for taste and they only exist
because people buy them.

If people like them, well, they do.  Personally I find them extremely
annoying, but, that being said, if and when I have kids, I'll probably
be getting one  ;-)

As to safety, well, the most dangerous part in a car is the loose nut
behind the wheel.
