yes, there was a bomb detonation in the desert. that asshat that was the director of CTU at the time who had major radiation poisoning took the plane down with the bomb in it. the bomb didn't go off this time, however.
tony was in jail for letting michelle (fiancee at the time) out of the quarantined hotel where the anthrax was released into the duct work. he breached nat'l security by doing that.
