Fox news has been majorly blasted for that story. It seems that it had no
basis in reality and was another of those anti-Israel scare stories that
come up now and again. There was one 3 or 4 years back about Israeli spies
in the defense department. Turned out to be a witch hunt (no offense to
witches on the list).
As for the relationship, Israel is a major tech house when needed. The new
anthrax vaccine is from there as is a number of anti-missile technologies.
That's besides Israel being the only country in the middle east that's
solidly on America's side. Egypt is a fair weather friend at best and a
breeding ground for our enemies at worst. Saudi Arabia? I wouldn't even get
into them.
And Iraq? I don't think its Israel that's pushing against them. Its Iran
that just threatened to nuke Israel (in not so many words).
"one nuclear bomb could destroy Israel, but the Israeli counterstrike would
only cause partial damage to the Islamic world."
If America stood against Syria's membership in the UN security council then
it would show Israeli influence. Iraq is rather low on Israel's list. On the
other hand, Bush might see himself as finishing his fathers job in Iraq. Not
that I disagree.
