First, I'm not making a claim that public support is proof of sound
policy.  I'm saying that when you go from 90% support to 35% support
you're doing something to cause people to doubt you.  In either case
the policy may still be right.  I've been a critic of Mr. Bush's
policies from day 1 - it's only now that what I've been predicting is
being verified empirically.

As to Germany, correlation does not equal causation.  For example, I'm
a big supporter of Mr. McCain, yet I highly disagree with him on Iraq.
 It's possible to support someone without supporting all of their
positions.

Further the German interior minister just this morning said,
"America's image in the world is that of, ahhh, a suspect."
