Yes, you can pick up the Origin 6 issue miniseries (think it's
probably also collected in trade paperback) to read about ...well,
about his origin :)

Scott may have been thinking of Marvel's 1602 miniseries written by
Neil Gaiman.  Was an...interesting series, although a little slow
moving.  I think I still need to go back and read the 8 issues
back-to-back, as by the time issue 8 came out, I had forgotten what
had gone on before.  But I'm fairly confident in saying that the
characters from that miniseries are NOT today's heroes (otherwise
they're all pretty old) :)
