No - but bigger than we need. ;^) Our current apartment is in the 1100 Sq
Ft range. So this place will be very nice (for the first time in my life I
won't have half my wife's wardrobe under the bed!)

It's on the high end in that area to be sure. The same house would go for
upwards of 1.2 million in the Boston Metro area (there simply aren't very
many large single family homes). The average price in Scranton seems to be
in the 70-80 range.

No - we're not.

My plan is (was?) to find a nice place for 75-85. Accelerating the mortgage
would let us pay that off in perhaps 7 years. At that time the equity would
let us buy something "permanent" someplace else - after we know the area
well, high-schools, etc.

This was the plan before she saw this place.

I've been out there several times myself (for work), my wife never has been.
Most of the people that I work with currently are in Scranton so they're
helping me with neighborhoods, schools and the like.

The town that this house is in is an older area - older homes and older
people. It's a higher end neighborhood (but with pretty low taxes). Very
much like the town I grew up in actually. The house is being sold (like
most houses in this town) because the current owners (who've owned it for 35
years) are moving to warmer climes.

We may still go with my plan (cheaper house paid off quickly) but if the
place looks good we may still go with this one. Even tho' it's a "dream
house" it's not really going to be hard. Paying no more a month than we do
now we can pay the house off with a 15 year mortgage.

Financially, at least, if she wants it she can have it. ;^)
