This is going to sound more complex than it is but... There are only a very limited number of posible results. For each addition of 1 you are instructed to take one more away from it.
EG: 10 : 1+0=1 : 10-1=9 16 : 1+6=7 : 16-7=9 23 : 2+3=5 : 23-5=18 24 : 2+4=6 : 24-6=18 29 : 2+9=11 : 29-11=18 99 : 9+9=18 : 99-18=81 If you continue this for yourself you will see that EVERY posible two digit number will return a multiple of 9 when ran through this procedure. You will then notice that all multiples of 9 up to and including 81 uses the same symbol. Each time you try the symbols are then shuffled arround to make it look like your next choice is diferent.
