This might be co vered below (I am coming in late), but they are
PUBLIC workers, working on the public dime. They provide what have
been designated as vital services.

Those are the only workers who cannot strike. Public employees in
vital service jobs.

They know this when they take the job. It has been the law for decades.

But, they cannot be fired for striking. Also in the law it is illegal
for the government to "lock them out".

According to the law, the only remedy for the government is fines, and
the only remedy for the workers is quitting.

So, I say fine the crap out of them, and process their resignation
letters as fast as you get them.

They are very well paid, most making more a year than I do, and they
have been offered (IIRC) a 5% per year raise over the next three
years.

On the public dime.

Good riddance I say.
