>For some believers (including all those who subscribe to a religion) >it is the literal word that's true and no contradictions from other >sources are allowed. That is until recently with the Dali Lama said in >the DC area that where the sacred texts and science conflict, science >is right. He has also stated his belief that modern science takes >precedence over ancient religions. >
I can live with that. The Bible, especially the Old Testament, is full of allegory, metaphor, editorialization and some history. All of which was meant to guide the faithful to Heaven. Until science can prove a soul, I'm keeping my faith from guiding my belief in science. It will guide my moral application, however. I find the people who belive in a literal interpreatation of the Bible fail to live up to the Laws placed upon them there. How many are living a Kosher lifestyle because that is what God commands in the Old Testament. Ask any literalist if he has had bacon or ham or pork chops recently than nail him as a hypocrite.
