Which ones?

We've had ferrets for the last 10 years or so. Some came from ferret
shelters while others came from breeders and some came from petstores.

I'd recommend looking at a local ferret shelter first, then a breeder.
BTW here's a list of some Virginia area shelters,
http://www.ferretcentral.org/for-others/database.html. The reason I'm
suggesting a local shelter first is that these guys need the homes.
They're typically more used to people, and are slightly older than
ferrets from Petco etc. - they're more laid back. Kits tend to be
worse than an ADHD kid on too much chocolate, caffine and sugar.

One really great shelter is ferrets R #1, http://www.ferretsr1.org/.
The operator, Faith Hood, runs a great shelter.

As for breeders there are several (more than several in the area
actually). We've mainly dealt with Vickie McKimmey,
http://www.mindspring.com/~jbferret/. Vicky has some great ferrets.
Another very good breeder is Sally Heber who runs the Shady Hollow
Ferretry in Frederick, Maryland,

feel free to email me about any questions you might have.
