Our trainer told us that you only put in the amount of food they are
supposed to have based on what the package or your vet tells you.

And after 20 minutes, you take the bowl up, if they haven't eaten it,
then they don't get any more. You always put the recommended amount in
the bowl.

He said that if the dog can eat whenever it wants it is much more
difficult to potty train.

Of course different dogs do different things.
