When I asked my GF out, I wrote my cell number on the back of a business
card, told her that I'd really enjoyed the conversation and would like
to continue it, and (referencing our discussion of her daughter and how
much time they spend together) told her if she'd like to spend some time
in the company of a grown-up, she should call me.

I asked, but let her do the deciding without me hovering.

This was on the advice of several female friends, but I'm willing to bet
it'd work on a guy, too. I know it'd work on me.
