In my ego-centric mind, I believe I know Dick. The problem is, there are people
who know Dick better than me. I know people who have actually met Dick where
I've never had the pleasure. The problem is that I enjoy Dick. Whether it's in
book form or a movie, Dick is great. My other problem is that I'm late in
seeing Dick's movie. This means that any idea I have about it is all cocked up.
:)

While watching Minority Report I came to the realization that they never caught
the real mastermind behind the entire movie. For those that want spoilers, the
basic premise is that a cop in a 'future crime' program is shown by a
precognitive to have committed a murder in the future. What follows is him
being chased down by his own team to stop him, him trying to find the person
he's supposed to murder and find out why. In the end, it turns out that his
boss was manipulating him into killing someone because the cop was on the trail
of a unknown murder that the boss did years ago.
The movie makes it seem that the boss was manipulating everything to cover up
the murder. The truth is that the boss is just as much a pawn as the cop is.
The true mastermind? The female precognitive.
It was her 'vision' that put the cop on the trail of the old murder. It was her
vision and hers alone that said he would be a murderer. She kept the cop safe
and guided him away from his old team until he committed the murder she had
foretold (actually a setup and then suicide, but....). Everything fell into
place for the boss's murder to come to the front. And who did he murder to make
the precognitive want to plan all this? Her mother.
So in the end she got everything she wanted. Freedom for herself and the other
prerogatives and her mothers murderer dead (by suicide). All nice and neat
without her being anywhere near the suicide scene. A perfect crime.
At least this is how I saw the movie. But then again, I don't know Dick as well
as I think I do. :)
