In my teens I worked as a pizza delivery boy (not pc correct but that's what
it was then) and I was always being asked to remove my earings, when I made
the comment that it's not fair to expect a male to remove them and a female
to not, he basically turned around and made sure that all employees whether
male or female did not have earrings.

Mind you he wasn't in very often as he managed/owned more than one store, so
anytime I pulled up and saw his car out came the earrings.

In a forever changing world, discrimination still goes on.

While I feel for your daughter's situation, and it's certainly
important to teach her to stand up for herself - it's also important
to point out that you can't change the world, and that people are
going to view her differently with a visible body modification.

If she chooses to keep the ring in her nose, it will be in her best
interest to consider that when getting a new job. There are certainly
plenty of jobs she can still have, but there are surely fewer she can
have now than before.

My sister has a tattoo on her forearm that she's had to cover in one
way or another for certain jobs. Others didn't care. But it did take
her some amount of stomping around yelling "that's not fair" to the
world before she realised that life - in fact - is *not* fair.

I would expect more difficulties and "situations" based on her nose
ring, and she should too. If you attempt to shut out everyone who
gives her trouble, you may find yourself shutting out alot of your
community.
