1. Select the table in Word. (Hover over the table, until you see the table crosshair in the top-left corner of the table. Right-click on this.) 2. Copy to the clipboard. 3. Open Excel, paste the content.
The formatting should be retained. You can also do a "Paste Special" which lets you remove any formatting.
