Right now COBRA may be my best bet. It will be very expensive, nearly $1500 a
month. But every agent I contacted yesterday started hemming and hawing that
it could be very difficult for me to get private insurance because of my wife's
and youngest son's existing medical conditions.

I would have to apply and be denied by two insurance companies then I could
apply for whatever it is called that is legally provided to cover people like
us. But this would take several weeks that I could not afford to go without
insurance.

The headhunter says he will build the cost of insurance into the rate being
offered me, so I am quoting $9 per hour to cover the COBRA insurance. If they
accept this, I will see if I can get private insurance for less then this
sometime in the future. But it could very well cost me nearly the same to get
insurance of the quality I need to cover my wife and youngest son, as well as
myself and oldest son.

Having been on the fringe of insurance in America all this millennia, I can
say, it is a broken system. Way too many of us fall through the cracks. If
you currently have affordable insurance the covers you well, count your lucky
stars and cross your fingers you never end up on the side of the fence on which
I have been.
