Just to add to this discussion, after running into the same problem with the crashing Mobipocket reader, I went with RichReader's RTF2DOC converter and viewer, found on the Memoware site at http://www.memoware.com/mw.cgi/?screen=help_format. RichReader has a freeware version. To be honest, the converter's poorly programmed, but here's how I got it to work. First, download RichReader from here: http://users.rcn.com/arenamk/RichReader.html#RichReader. Unzip this into C:\RichReader (this is where the bad programming comes in - it seems to work only if you put it in this directory - path setting does not work). Run setup.exe in this directory. Download the RTF format file book you want, e.g. free Baen books from http://www.baen.com/library/. Convert it using rtf2doc or, easier yet, wrtf2doc, a simple Windows interface for the program. Choose the RTF file you want, "Convert", and it makes the pdb file in the same directory where the RTF is located. Install the pdb and install RichReaderFreeware.prc and you should be able to read the book on RichReader.
Unfortunately, the converter does not convert in such a way that other PDB readers can read it well (at least CSpotRun does not). Also, I found that if the book file had a title, it would not convert, you'd get some error about line 2 of the file. Opening up the RTF, there was an image of the cover in the file. Deleting this and saving made the RTF convertible. These experiments took me a half hour or so to work through, so I hope this message saves someone some time in the future. There might be a better way (e.g. HTML to Doc converter), but this worked for me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Message: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=i:5:195848 Archives: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/threads.cfm/5 Subscription: http://www.houseoffusion.com/lists.cfm/link=s:5 Unsubscribe: http://www.houseoffusion.com/cf_lists/unsubscribe.cfm?user=89.70.5 Donations & Support: http://www.houseoffusion.com/tiny.cfm/54
