Going to an occasional show across the river and a couple of miles away does not mean that you have any idea where Anacostia is, let alone what it is like there ;) Yes, crime is moving out into PG County, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Two hundred murders a year is still very high. especially when they are almost all on one side of town. I'd be willing to bet a lot of them are still unsolved drug murders as well.
