There are potentially several ways - it depends on which model of DVR you
have.

I've got the Motorola 2-Tuner model and the firewire out (for Digital VCR
use) is active and can dump high-quality output to a computer.  Also the
analog output (coaxial) is active (I've got this running to my TV card) and
can be recorded from.

Many TVs now also have a "Video Out" that may work.

I'm not sure but you might also be able to pull the hard drive and read
information directly off of that - I believe it stores the shows in MPEG2
format (but it would be as simple as that - you'll have to figure out the
drive format and all).
