He was treated on scene by Cheney's medically trained detail before being moved to the hospital. Who follow him everywhere (the President too). The same as they would have treated anyone in a medical emergency (once they had determined the VP did not need them) regardless of what caused the emergency.
Those same doctors have been kept in the loop during the hospital treatment, partly to reassure Cheney that his friend and victim is getting the best care, and partly because, as doctors, they feel an attachment to the guy and want to make sure he is OK.
