Don't forget China, the EU is flooded with cheap chinese goods these days - I was watching a program recently in which Raleigh Cycles (which is about as british a company as you can get) were explaining that they no longer manufacture anything in the UK. A Cycle which would cost £200+ to build here can be produced for a third of that in China.
Globalisation is a double edged sword, it's great for company profits, but destroys home grown industry.
