Here is some free software that works pretty good http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/ you will need DVD decryptor to rip the track off of the DVD (that's free just do a google search to find a copy).
As for FM or AM, why not buy a radio shark ($40 on Amazon) and you can record all of the shows you want to hear. I record the shows on my PC in huge ass WAV files, then convert them to mp3. The only downside would be that you wouldn't be able to listen live to your programs, but you would have the benefit of being able to hear the whole show. I have had a good experience with the radio Shark.
